St Andrew’s Hospice, a key provider of palliative and end-of-life care in North East Lincolnshire, sought to enhance its services for younger patients by refurbishing their Andy’s Children Unit. The refurbishment aimed to create a vibrant, sensory-rich environment that would cater to the needs of children with complex conditions. To achieve this, St Andrew’s turned to Innova Care Concepts, who had previously outfitted the hospice’s front-of-house and inpatient units.
The project presented several challenges, including the need for a design that balanced high-end aesthetics with clinical functionality, all while maintaining a non-clinical atmosphere. Additionally, the pandemic-induced closure of the children’s unit required careful planning for the storage and timely installation of furniture and equipment.
Innova addressed these challenges by utilizing their expansive warehouse facilities to store the necessary items until the site was ready. They delivered bespoke furniture and equipment, including a custom reception desk with LED lighting and discreet overhead hoist systems that maintained the rooms’ homely feel. The result was a thoughtfully designed children’s unit that enhanced the sensory experience while meeting clinical care standards.
Innova’s work on this project, which included a mix of practical and creative solutions, ensured that St Andrew’s Hospice could offer a welcoming and supportive environment for their young patients and their families.
