New Changing Places at Stalybridge Station

Posted on 19 July 2024

A new Changing Places at Stalybridge Station has been installed, helping make rail travel more accessible for commuters and the local area.

Installed by Changing Places supplier, Innova Care Concepts, the new facilities are the first of their kind in the Stalybridge area.

Thanks to this new installation, visitors and commuters, regardless of their disability, will have more opportunities to go to the shops, attend hospital appointments, enjoy community life, socialise and ultimately access the rail network at Stalybridge Station.

Funding for Changing Places at Stalybridge Station

The new Changing Places toilet has been made possible thanks to funding provided by the Department for Transport with Muscular Dystrophy UK and TransPennine Express’s Customer and Communities Improvement Fund.

The new Changing Places at Stalybridge Station is a larger accessible toilet for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. Equipped with equipment such as hoists, curtains and adult-sized changing benches, they provide ample space for carers.

Research conducted by the Research Institute for Disabled Consumers (RIDC) found that transport networks were in the top five areas where people wanted to see an increase in Changing Places.

“We know that good quality public toilets are important to everyone, but for people with additional needs having specialised facilities is essential. Changing Places Toilets enable anyone to go to the shops, attend appointments, socialise, and travel. We are proud to have these facilities available for our passengers.”

Adam Fairclough, Head of Customer Experience at TransPennine Express

“Around a quarter of a million people in the UK need extra space and equipment to use toilets safely and comfortably. Finding accessible transport links is a major issue that families face in the UK, so it’s great to see TransPennine Express’s (TPE) Tameside station making a positive difference with a new Changing Places toilet. We are delighted to have worked with the team on this project, which means even more people can enjoy train journeys in a safer and more comfortable environment.”
