How much does a hydrotherapy pool cost?

It’s one of the most common questions we get asked — how much does a hydrotherapy pool cost? This is completely understandable because hydrotherapy pools are such big specialist items, it’s difficult to be able to estimate the price if you don’t know much about them.

So let’s take a look at how much a hydrotherapy pool costs and the different factors involved.

Size

The size of the hydrotherapy pool is arguably the biggest factor that can affect the price. We usually say that hydrotherapy pools can start at anywhere around £70,000 and go all the way up to £200,000+ depending on the size (these prices also include plant rooms, environmental controls, and other factors).

A hydrotherapy pool is typically 1.2m — 1.5m in depth, so the variable in price in down to the linear metre of the pool (the length and width). As you can imagine, every time you increase the length or width, it will increase the hydrotherapy pool cost.

We would say that the smallest size hydrotherapy pool you can get is 3m x 3m, which costs approximately £70,000.

Filtration, Plant Room & Environmental Controls

External features like the plant room and environmental controls can also affect hydrotherapy pool cost.

Every hydrotherapy pool will need a plant room, and the closer it is to the pool itself, the cheaper it is to service the pool over time. This means that it ends up costing less over time if you have the plant room as close as possible to the pool.

In addition, pools need environmental controls that provide air dehumidification. Because of the higher temperature in hydrotherapy pools, the room ends up getting a lot hotter and a lot damper than any other room.

The price of the hydrotherapy pool can change drastically depending on the size of the room and how much glass (windows, etc.) is in it. If you have a big room with lots of windows and a bigger surface area of water, you’ll need a bigger air handling system which costs more money.

Different types of filtration can also alter the cost of a hydrotherapy pool.

Skimmer filtration systems are cheaper but can only be in domestic settings. Whereas overflow filtration is more expensive but needs to be used in multi-user environments and public spaces.

Hydrotherapy Pool Installation Cost

The cost of labour and installation for a hydrotherapy pool again varies of what kind of pool you’re installing. With stainless steel pools, the cost of labour is fairly low because they’re very quick and easy to get in place.

The pool itself is simply craned into the ground, and then covered and left until the project is near completion for the rest of the installation work to be carried out. This is much easier for other contractors as well because they aren’t reliant on us and we aren’t reliant on them in terms of timescales.

Concrete and tiled pools end up costing about the same as stainless steel pools when installation is factored in because they take a lot longer to install. With long waits for reinforced concrete to set and waterproof treatment taking another chunk of time, tiled pools tend to be a bit more time-consuming and ultimately are more expensive for maintenance in the long-run.

Additional Options & Finishes

As you can imagine, additional features and finishes will add to the value of a hydrotherapy pool. If you choose to include air spa jets, currents, lounging positions, access steps, covers, lights, or anything else on offer then the price will go up.

Similarly, if you don’t want to leave the pool with the standard stainless-steel finish, then you can use a vinyl lining. This will again bump up the price.

Ultimately, hydrotherapy pool cost is dependent on how big it is and how much you want to include in it.

It’s always worth making a list of all the things you wish to include in your designs — including the size — and then it will be easier to give yourself a loose price. But if you want a more accurate price with breakdowns of cost, then get in touch with our team.
