Opened on 6th October 2024, Midland Metropolitan University Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility designed to serve the vibrant and diverse communities of Sandwell and West Birmingham. With a focus on caring for those requiring urgent or complex treatment, the hospital priorities safe and efficient patient handling. To support this goal, Innova Care Concepts was selected by Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust to design and install advanced ceiling track hoist systems throughout the hospital.
In total, Innova installed 353 ceiling track hoists, providing accessibility across both single rooms and 4/6-bed bays. This comprehensive installation ensures that every ward in the hospital is fully accessible. To meet a wide range of patient needs, including bariatric care, Innova supplied a variety of hoist units such as the AirRise200, with a 200kg safe working load, as well as dual hoists for patients weighing up to 500kg.
A standout feature of the project is the installation of Innova’s innovative ‘curtain hopper’ system. This unique solution integrates AirGlide360 Ceiling Tracks and AirRise Ceiling Hoists in a flexible H-frame configuration, allowing overhead hoists to smoothly navigate over privacy curtain tracks in multi-bed bays. This design not only enhances staff efficiency but also maintains patient privacy, giving nursing teams the flexibility to move patients safely and easily without compromising individual needs.
“Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust is pleased to have partnered with Innova Care Concepts for supply and installation of the ceiling track hoists in our new-build Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. The package consists of 353 hoists which will be installed throughout the hospital with a combination of single rooms and 4/6 bed bays. Before choosing to partner with Innova, we did some extensive research into the different options available in the market and found Innova’s proposal provided us a perfect solution to our requirements.”
