Overview

Summerdown SEN School in Eastbourne provides specialised education provision for up to 84 learners aged 5 to 16 with autism and speech/communication needs (ASC). Additionally, the school features the Southfield Centre, a dedicated facility for up to 51 learners with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

This newly built school offers cutting-edge facilities, including a hydrotherapy pool, sensory rooms, food technology suites, state-of-the-art science labs, and beautifully landscaped gardens designed to create an enriching outdoor environment.

To ensure the hydrotherapy pool and plant room met the unique needs of the school, Innova Care Concepts were selected for their expertise in designing and installing healthcare equipment for SEN schools. Innova played a key role in designing the pool layout, plant room, and hoisting system, helping to create a space that promotes both independence and mobility for students.

The result is a 7 x 4m stainless steel skimmer hydro pool, complete with Venturi water jets and LED lighting for a fully immersive sensory experience. For wheelchair users, an AirGlide 360 system and AirRise 200 hoist unit were installed, enabling smooth and efficient transfers from the hygiene room to the pool, enhancing accessibility and comfort throughout the facility.
